Analog Designers created Spice, Analog Design Professionals are adding their experience in many commercial and free spice EDA tools. When you are creating a new demanding design, a working solution is achieved by combining workbench and simulation work.

Lab Test Bench and Breadboard testing needs to be done along with analog simulation. Power and mixed signal design too, needs to be verified on board. This is more true for a new design lab or new engineers. Experienced designers will not make many mistakes as design blocks would be in their collections or in their knowledge base. It is this knowledge that can build the simulator itself, this makes the simulator as skilled as the designer but also limited to his or that firm's experience. In a full digital design, simulation does a more complete Virtual Test bench role.

A simulation tool can help you test the blocks and helps catch some design and concept errors. When you build a live breadboard prototype, some real issues facing your design can emerge.

ICL7107 DPM and DVM chip from Intersil

The Intersil ICL7106 and ICL7107 are high performance, low power, 31/2 digit A/D converters. Included are seven segment decoders, display drivers, a reference, and a clock. The ICL7106 is designed to interface with a liquid crystal display (LCD) and includes a multiplexed backplane drive; the ICL7107 will directly drive an instrument size light emitting diode (LED) display.

This is one of the first mixed CMOS IC, I used it after studying Intersil CMOS Hot Ideas Book. It is also the most widely used Display chip. Many Millions of Instruments are built using this chip both in Instrumentation and Industrial Automation. The ICL7106 was most popular in Hand Held DMM's and Clamp Meters as it used to drive a LCD Display. ICL7109 was to interface with Digital Comparators and Microprocessors.

Just imagine a Wireless Router or even a Internet Router as easy to tune as a FM radio, no entering numbers, no admin with browser. Just keep it in a room and all gadgets and computers form a fuzzy network, all by themselves. The very idea of technology is to make things simple, cost-effective and efficient.

The real need of robots now is to avoid Humans in Hazardous Environment. Right from Outer Space to working in a Plant with Toxic Chemical Gases, Even machinery and equipment that injures the limbs or damages the eyes.

Virtualization in Robotics -

If workers can wear a coat of sensors with force feedback actuators, they can control a semi-automatic robot in Real-Time. This enables a worker to navigate a robot into a hazardous environment, perform an upgrade or make repairs. An accident or mishap will damage the robot and it can be easily rebuilt or maintained.

The robot is automatic and will have reflexes defined by software. The wireless networking will connect the Robot mechanically to a human in a safe enclosure. This makes the Worker present virtually inside the Robot, because he is connected by optical, aural and mechanical-muscle feedback-sensors. This will create Virtual Anthropomorphic Robots for Industrial use and may help to finally develop Fuzzy Robots or Androids, which is still in the relm of science fiction.

Quad-Differential-Comparator-LM339-TI

These devices consist of four independent voltage comparators that are designed to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. Operation from dual supplies also is possible, as long as the difference between the two supplies is 2 V to 36 V, and VCC is at least 1.5 V more positive than the input common-mode voltage.

IMU - Accelerometers and Gyroscopes

The ADXL345 from Analog Devices is a small, thin, low power, 3-axis accelerometer with high resolution 13-bit measurement at up to ±16 g.

Vicacopter - Open Flight Robotics

Vicacopter uses a ground computer for flight control. An 8 bit airborne microcontroller handles rate damping, PWM, & sensor capturing. The ground computer handles navigation & provides a simple instrument panel. This was the cheapest & most flexible way to fly. The system can be converted to a completely airborne autopilot very simply.

The Tri-Roter one used 3 gyros for short term rotation sensing, 2 accelerometers for long term tilt sensing, 3 magnetometers for long term heading sensing, a high quality GPS module for horizontal position, a barometer for altitude sensing. A 3rd accelerometer was too sensitive to vibration & altitude changes to be any good. Because of the long term sensors & the very stable gyros, the orientation was always pretty accurate & didn't drift.

It also supports the areas called Life Sciences, Bio Technology, GeoSciences, Materials Science etc. .
