Linear Circuit Design Handbook - Hank Zumbahlen

Linear Circuit Design Handbook, edited by Hank Zumbahlen (Newnes, 2008), bridges the gap between circuit component theory and practical circuit design. Effective analog circuit design requires a strong understanding of core linear devices and how they affect analog circuit design.

Linear Circuit Design Handbook – Hank Zumbahlen

This book provides complete coverage of important analog devices and how to use them in designing linear circuits, and serves as a useful learning tool and reference for design engineers involved in analog and mixed-signal design.

LM335 Cold Junction Compensation

Temperature Sensors like Thermocouples need cold junction compensation as a part of front end signal conditioning, this is done at the terminal block where the Thermocouple wires are terminated. This design has to be more accurate and broad, if the design we make has to work well in both Tropical and Temperate Climate Zones.

LM335 Cold Junction Compensation

Another Method using a Copper Resistor

If wires of two dissimilar metals are joined at both the ends and the junction formed at one of the ends, is heated more than the other junction, a current flows in the circuit due to Seebeck thermal emf. This effect is used in thermocouple temperature sensors.

The Peltier effect is the converse of above Seebeck effect, which means that if a current is forced through junctions of dissimilar metals, the junction will generate heat or absorb heat (cooling) depending on direction of the applied emf. This effect is used to make portable and small refrigerators. Thermocouple Temperature DPM - DMM

CMOS Linear Applications – Fairchild Semiconductor

Careful study of CMOS characteristics show that CMOS devices used in a system design can be used for linear building blocks as well as digital blocks.

Utilization of these new devices will decrease package count and reduce supply requirements. The circuit designer now can do both digital and linear designs with the same type of device.

CMOS Linear Applications – Fairchild Semiconductor

CMOS Linear Applications AN-88

CMOS inverters can be paralleled for increased power to drive higher current loads. Loads of 5.0 mA per inverter can be expected under AC conditions.

PNP and NPN bipolar transistors have been used for many years in “complementary” type of amplifier circuits. Now, with the arrival of CMOS technology, complementary P-channel/N-channel MOS transistors are available in monolithic form.

Analog Devices - Process Control

In my early learning/building days 80s/90s, Chips and Hybrids of Analog Devices and Burr Brown were very expensive and their performance was unquestionable. They made building sensitive and precision instruments easy for an Instrumentation design engineer.

Process Control & Industrial Automation - Analog Devices

Another brand that was good/expensive for analog was Datel-GE. Another GE company called Intersil made the best chip-solutions with cmos. They not only worked well, they were also affordable and had low power consumption.
