jnicolle.com - 8051 - Altera HDL UP1

jnicolle.com - 8051 - Altera HDL UP1

"I wrote an 8051 CPU emulation core with complete instruction-set support. The core is fast and has been well tested. The Intel MCS-51 BASIC interpreter code runs perfectly as an example, see the example application below. " - Jean Nicolle

  • The CPU core is fully emulated, all instructions.
  • Interrupts are not emulated (which would be pretty easy to add).
  • On-chip peripherals are not emulated (which would be much more complex to do completely and accurately)

Here are a few designs targeted for Altera's UP1-board. They are programmed using HDLs (AHDL, VHDL and Verilog HDL). These designs can be useful as demos for the UP1 board and HDL source examples. They emulate some old video games.

Coprolite Homebrew Computer Construction and Electronics

Coprolite Homebrew Computer Construction and Electronics

The roadside attraction of this site is the Z-80 Homebrew Computer. This was a project that I started in 1980. I moved many, many times between 1983 and 1996, and the project often was shut up in a trunk. In some cases I lost (or gave away) most of my equipment and parts. I finally got the full homebrew computer working twelve years later on several breadboards, and soldered it all up in 1993. It took me another ten years to document the system. It has been a fun ride.

The first microcontroller I became fascinated with was the 8048 (and 8748). This site has a lot of info on the 8048, including an 8048 Development System.
