Engineering Electronics Shop Page

Engineering Electronics Shop Page

The Shop Pages are intended to provide students and staff with access to Internet E.E.-related resources, to explain in detail the functioning of our labs and Shop, and to provide information of particular interest to any E.E. student designing electronics projects. Web readers outside of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln campus should know that some of the services mentioned on these pages are applicable to UN-L only.

gedasymbols.org - gEDA suite

gedasymbols.org - gEDA suite

gedasymbols.org. This website is a repository for symbols, footprints and documentation that are useful to anyone using the GPL schematic creation program gschem or the GPL pcb layout program PCB. The misson of gedasymbols.org is to increase the usage of the gEDA suite of tools by distributing symbols and footprints for these programs.

Please note that this site is undergoing transition (as of Feb 2006 at least) so please bear with us while we get our act together. Meanwhile, here are some links to relevent information:

gEDA - full GPL'd suite of Electronic Design Automation tools. These tools are used for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production.

Open Programmer PIC and Atmel

An open source USB programmer for PIC micros, I2C EEPROMs, some ATMEL micros, generic I2C/SPI devices and (soon) other devices.

Open Programmer PIC and Atmel

  • Completely free and Open Source (including firmware)
  • Programs PIC10-12-16-18, 24xxxx I2C EEPROMs, some ATMEL micros, communicates with generic I2C & SPI devices (see supported devices)
  • USB interface, HID class (same as keyboards, mice, etc.)
  • Self powered
  • Doesn't need drivers
  • Built from easy to find components (estimated cost ~10€)
  • Hardware generated timings for maximum speed and reliability (writes a 18F2550 in 15s, 8s under Linux)
  • Doesn't saturate your CPU and doesn't suffer when other programs are running
  • Open source control programs for Linux and Windows

Termite Terminal - RS232 Interfacing - CompuPhase

Termite is an easy to use and easy to configure RS232 terminal. It uses an interface similar to that of "messenger" or "chat" programs, with a large window that contains all received data and an edit line for typing in strings to transmit. This terminal ought to help serial port SBC development.

Plug-in interface for pre-processing or alternative views of the data, logging received data to a file, adding a toolbar to Termite, and other functionality that you may think of.

It can also do ..
  • A history of commands that you typed, with auto-completion.
  • Support for non-standard Baud rates (MIDI, DMX512).
  • Data can be forwarded between two RS232 ports.
